Against Circumcision
The reason my husband and I chose not to circumcise our son were based on the fact that there is no medical reason for having circumcision. It is in fact, penile plastic surgery and can certainly do a considerable amount of harm. Also, we felt that this should be our son's choice, if later in life he wanted to have it done, that option would always be open to him. But we didn't want to rob him of that decision. Also, if you wait until later in life, like the teen years and adulthood, anesthetic is used, whereas when they are infants most often no form of anesthetic or numbing is used. Tell a man your gonna chop off the most sensitive part of his body without anything to help the pain and he'd freak out. Babies don't have the ability to tell you what they are feeling, making it, in my opinion inhumane. The pain and trauma caused by circumcision made it something that we definitely wanted to avoid. The care of an uncircumcised penis is pretty simple, leave it alone until it retracts, then show your son how to retract it and clean around the head and shaft. It's not rocket science, and can easily be part of his daily routine.
