First Month of Pregnancy
What's happening with your baby?
WOW, what an exciting month this is, the first month of pregnancy. Even
after one day, yes ONE day, once the sperm has penetrated the egg, the
cell begins to divide. By day four, the will have already divided into
25-30 cells! The egg is usually implanted in the womb about 8
days after conception. On about day 15, nerve fibers are formed, this
will eventually become the brain of the baby. At the end of the first
month, the baby is about the size of a grain of rice. How amazing
the process of life is....
What's happening with Mama?
Usually, most women don't even know they
are pregnant the first month. That's why it is so important if you are
planning on getting pregnant, that you act like you are pregnant until
you know for sure.. I personally felt nauseous about 6-7 days after
conception with my second pregnancy, and I was able to detect pregnancy
with a test only 8 days after conception. Around this time, your body
produces more progesterone, and these hormonal changes can reach havoc
on some women. These hormones can cause "morning sickness" breast
tenderness, constipation in some. But, like I said, every woman
is different.
What should you be doing this month?
Like I said above, most women don't even
know they're pregnant yet. That is why it is so important to act
pregnant until you know for sure. By saying "act pregnant" I mean, stay
away from unnecessary drugs, smoking, anything you wouldn't do if you
were pregnant. Make sure throughout your whole pregnancy to drink lots
of water. Drinking water is not only important for your baby, it also
helps with constipation which is a common symptom early in
pregnancy. Keep active but if you feel tired, get the rest you need, as
fatigue is also an early symptom of pregnancy. Don't feel guilty about
napping or resting if you need to, you're body is going through a lot
of changes. Lastly, congratulations and this is going to be a
wonderful ride!
