Natural Birth Colleen Hulse

Hey there!  Just in case you were wondering, “Just who is the world is Colleen Hulse?” I decided to create this page to tell you a little bit about me
I grew up on Long Island, New York and went to Baldwin High School where I met my wonderful husband, Elliott.  We were the typical high school sweethearts; he was a star football player and I was the enthusiastic cheerleader.  In our high school yearbook, Elliott even wrote, “I will be married to Colleen Martin (my maiden name) with 9 children.” in the ‘Where Will You Be In 10 Years from now? section.
After high school I attended Fairfield University where I studied Human Biology.  Afterward, I enrolled in grad school at Springfield College where I earned my Masters in Education.  My intention was to become a high school Biology teacher.
A few months after graduation Elliott and I got married and I took a job as a science teacher and within months of starting my first job, wediscovered we were pregnant!
Being that Elliott is a natural health freak, as soon as we discovered that we were having a baby he began researching natural childbirth.  After he and I searched for weeks and weeks for reliable sources of information on giving birth naturally, we concluded that it was the only logical choice for us and our new baby.
We decided that we were going to have our first baby in the hospital, so the  first thing we did was to seek the advice and care of a midwife.  Diane was a certified nurse midwife who was very helpful and accommodating. She respected all of our wishes and saw to it that our birth went safely, smoothly and NATURALLY.  With her, we delivered Isabelle in 2004.  Although our midwife complied with all of our wishes, Elliott and I agreed that she was not our perfect choice and that we’d look for someone else to support us with our future births.
Shortly after Isabelle was born, my passion for natural birth was still burning strong!  I decided that I needed to share my love and enthusiasm for natural birth with others.  I committed myself to become a Certified Natural Childbirth Educator and that’s what I did!
Once we settled into our new home in Florida, we got pregnant with our second child.  After much searching, researching and discussion, Elliott and I decided that we were going to have a home birth.  We met Anne, a Licensed Midwife, who we immediately knew was the midwife for us.  She possessed all of the qualities and values that both Elliott and I thought were important for the person supporting our natural birth. She was amazing in every way!  With her in our home, we brought our second daughter Emerson into the World safely, gently and naturally!
Exactly a year later we found out we were pregnant with our third child, and we chose to have another home birth with Anne.  In 2008 we welcomed our third daughter Simone to the World.  I could not have asked for more perfect home birth experiences!  Our midwife was able to guide us and support us without intruding and intervening. Through my entire pregnancy, labor and delivery, we felt comfortable, relaxed, safe and secure and that’s how our babies entered the World.
And that brings us to the current time… I’m now a full-time mommy to my 3 girls, as well as the Nursery Director for our church.  I continue to share my enthusiasm and passion for natural childbirth at every opportunity!  It is with sheer excitement that I get to share my love for natural childbirth with you!
I’m here to help you and support you through your journey of pregnancy and birth.  It is my hope that this Blog will be a continuous resource and inspiration for you, as you strive to have the birth of your dreams.  You are strong and capable, and you can have a natural birth!
